I remember how my college friends and I were studying for our exams at university. Our apartments have never been as tidy since. Somehow, every time we wanted to sit down in our room and study, we suddenly realised how dirty the place was. Of course, we had to give the cleaning priority and turn to our studies afterwards.
Obviously, we were procrastinating like hell, but we did get the cleaning done – something we didn’t usually accomplish.
There’s Always a Bigger Fish
In Star Wars Episode One, the Jedi Knights are driving a submarine through unknown territory. At some point, a giant fish turns up and is threatening to destroy the vessel. Just before the monster kills our Jedis, an even larger fish shows up and eats the dangerous animal. Full and happy, the bigger fish disappears.
Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn comments on the incident with the words: “Well, there’s always a bigger fish”.
Regardless of whether you like the film, there is always a bigger fish. For every task you are procrastinating over, I bet there is one thing you are dreading more. You don’t want to clean your apartment, but you’d rather clean than study. You don’t want to write the next blog post, but you’d prefer that to finally making that appointment with your dentist.
Quick and Dirty
Use this effect to your advantage! Whenever you realise that you’re procrastinating over a certain kind of work, think of something even worse. Then, put that at the top of your to-do list. In no time, you’ll find yourself procrastinating over the new task – by acting on the work over which you were originally procrastinating.
Sure, this technique is one of the quick and dirty kinds. It won’t solve the psychological issues underlying procrastination. But, if you need a solution that’s fast and easy, this little trick will do the job better than anything else will.

Question about the new Star Wars the Clone Wars episode?
In the new episodes of Star Wars the Clone Wars (the animated show on cartoon network) they are in that Citadel prison facility. Is it me, or is that prison on Peragus? (for those that have played KotOR or know about the Peragus mining facility)
It sure does look like the prison on Peragus but its not. This Citadel Prison is on Lola Sayu.
