Transformers Universe

In the Transformers universe, what is a Prime?
So, if you’ve seen the latest Transformers movie, they make a big deal out of Optimus Prime being a ‘Prime’, but they never really explain what that means. I’ve tried looking on the web and can’t seem to find an answer. In the Transformers universe, what is a Prime? Why are they unique and so special and what’s different about them?
In every iteration of every series a Prime is is a chosen leader, chosen by the matrix.
In the original series Prime was a title given to a holder of the Matrix or a chosen one who can use the Matrix. The Matrix of Leadership is an object that contains a fragment of the god Primus, whose physical form became the planet Cybertron. After he created his first 13 children he left them a means to defeat his eternal enemy, the Dark God Unicron. The Matrix also had the power to give a new body life and reawaken deactiveted Cybertronians. Because of its mythical nature only a Prime can use it.
Over the years and the course of civil wars the Matrix was passed to those who were chosen, from Prima, to Primon, to Nova Prime, to Sentinel Prime, to Optimus Prime, and to Rodimus Prime, and through the ages the Matrix contained the combined and accumulated wisdom of each leader.
The Prime line began with Prima, the first of Primus’ children. The other 12 also hold the Prime name but not all are known. One of them betrayed the others and Primus to Unicron and became known as The Fallen. Officially only Primes are among the first 13, but in a story called Alignment one of the first 13 is named the Liege Maximo and he began the Decepticon lineage, or the one who would form them when he created Megatron. It’s a great story but may not be official because Hasbro might only want Primes as the first 13.
It’s worth noting that the Liege Maximo was able to use the Matrix after he extracted it from Primon,, an event that traumatized the Matrix into forgetting about Primon.
