Twilight is huge, it is probably one of the biggest genre’s to hit the movies since the Harry Potter series. Everyone is in love with Twilight, the books have sold millions of copies, and the first movie made over $70 million in the opening weekend. Now that’s a lot of money.
So what exactly is the big deal with Twilight? Why does everyone like it so much? How can 1 movie and a couple of books turn into such an overpowering force that so many have turned to Vampires? The simple answer, I don’t freaking know. But how the heck did Harry Potter do it either? Anyway, I do have some theories, and by theories, I mean just some idle rambling that goes through my head.
First off, who doesn’t like fantasy? Who doesn’t like reading about things that aren’t of this reality, that can’t ever be true? Everyone does… everyone wants to escape, and everyone needs something to take their mind off of the daily hum drum of everyday life. That’s just what movies like Twilight do, they put our brains in a fantasy world where we are free to explore the impossible and imagine its all possible. Vampire’s living among us is not a new concept. Dating way back to the 17th and 18th century writers have been telling the stories of creatures of the night that crawl around killing and raping women. I think a lot of it was to scare the bejeezies out of people, but I also think that it was a way for people to explain the unexplainable.
Next point, Edward and Jacob. Jacob wasn’t a big deal in the first movie, and I haven’t seen the second movie yet, but Jacob is HOTT (too hot for just one “T”) in the commercials for New Moon. He has an amazing body, and who doesn’t love to see a man that can really turn into a beast when needed. And Edward, do I even really need to comment on how HOTT he is?
Another point, for you manly Twilight lovers, Bella is HOTT too… and I think in this next movie she make a very grown up transformation from what she was in the first movie. Again, I have not seen it yet, so this is going off of just the commercials, but she looks much prettier in this one, and her meek and tough at the same time ways make you want to eat her up… well if I was a guy I mean.
And my last point, the books are amazing, the concept is great, the plot is full of wonderfully creative scenes, and the author seems to have really given thought to the characters personalities. Each one has their strong points, and each one has a purpose in the series. I also think that some of the differences between the Cullen Vampires and “normal” vampire’s sets this book in a different league. I know, I know, vampire’s aren’t suppose to go into the sun, they are suppose to be able to be killed with a stake, they don’t sparkle in sunlight, but its these character traits that set this book apart from the “normal” vampire books. Its a small twist that helps turn this book into extraordinary.
Of course, only time will tell if this story can stand the test of time, but at this moment I don’t think anyone affiliated with the book or the movies are complaining any. Its the hottest thing out right now, and I anticipate it will break records when New Mood gets released on November 20th.
