Which trains do you use for wooden train track?
We are planning on buying a Circo brand wooden train track set from Target for my son for Christmas, but we are confused about which trains work on it. We know that it is compatible with Thomas the Train engines, but is it the wooden ones or can you use the little metal ones? Any help is appreciated!
Most of the wooden trains should work on it (Circo, Thomas, Brio, others.) I believe they may have a few diecast trains made for the wooden sets but most metal ones, like for Take-Along Thomas and such, have skinnier wheel bases so don’t fit. The plastic and metal electric ones for Trackmaster, Tomy etc. sets have wider wheel bases and don’t fit either. So, if you’re trying to buy matching vehicles, sticking to wood is probably best/easiest. But, if you end up with mixed sets, most kids don’t seem to mind pretending to zoom the trains along, even if the wheels don’t fit perfectly. 
Oh, I should add that they do have wooden electric trains made for the wood sets too.
