Does your child enjoy thier ride on toy?
Not the auto kind but the ones they have to make go themselves? At what age do they like these? I’m thinking about buyig one for my 16 months old but not sure if he will keep interest in it or what kind I should buy.
I got my daughter her first ride-on at about 8 months old. She was starting to try and stand up, so I thought she would like it. She did, to a point. She liked climbing on it, and liked sitting on it, but didn’t push it around. It was this Hasbro Playskool Step Start Walk N’ Ride. It was short and the wheels didn’t turn fast, so it was alright.
When she turned a year, I got her the Fisher Price Little People Truck Ride on and she loved it! She pushes the buttons, hides things in the seat, and then just rides and rides on it.
A few weeks ago (16 months) her Grandma had a ride-on that she let her use. It was “Dora the Explorer” but was like this third link. There were a MILLION little things going on in the front! It was for school, and it was from a used shop, but my daughter absolutely adored it and played with it first thing every day. There were a million buttons to explore, and things to move, and then she could ride it around too.
She’s starting to eye little tricycles now… she watches the kids in the neighborhood and wants to ride one with them. But heck yeah, the ride-ons in our life have gotten a LOT of love, wear, and tear.
I recommend one that has loud buttons so that it plays music, has sound effects, and things that they can sit there and push instead of just riding it. If you want to have it work for outside riding, keep in mind those wheels are really shoddy work and don’t always hold up, look for good wheels. Look at your son’s size. You want something where they can sit there and stand up but you don’t want it so short that they can’t push off. I especially recommend getting one with a tall back-handle (see the third link.) It makes it less likely they’ll do a back-fall and land against the floor, and sometimes they turn around and ride it backwards or pull it after them. Also, a must-have is a hiding spot under the seat. It’s funny what they hide there.
