Anytime you are new at something, the sheer volume of information available can overwhelm you and this subject is no exception. There are so many different NASCAR diecast cars out there made by so many companies. So, when you’re shopping online and sellers offer few details about their die cast cars, not to mention very poor pictures, how do you know which ones to buy? Here are some things to keep in mind.
Many, if not all, of the different die cast manufacturers have different levels of NASCAR diecast and, of course, differing prices. The highest level is very detailed with a metal die cast body and chassis, the most moving parts (hood opens, trunk opens, front tires steer and roll, roof flaps open) and distinguishable parts of the car. These are intended for adults and are more expensive. Sometimes, you can distinguish these NASCAR diecast cars by the manufacturer name but not always. At the lowest level, the bodies are made of plastic and molded as a single piece. They have very little detail, few moving parts (usually just the wheels) and the chassis is made of a single color plastic. The only difference between parts in the interior of the car is the shape of the item. Intended for children, partially due to lack of swallowing hazards, they are also cheaper. Many of these cheaper (not cheapest) NASCAR diecast replicas bear the names “Winner’s Circle” and “Racing Champions” although “Revell”, which has been around a very long time, has a low end replica that is a step above these two. A metal die cast body and chassis, lots of detail and moving parts are good indicators of a higher end collectible.
Packaging should also be considered because most die casts are packaged for a child which means removing the car and throwing away the box. If you want to preserve your investment, do not have lots of room to display your die casts or intend to resell them, you may want to have a nice box, with protection, to store them in. Higher end NASCAR diecast cars are usually packaged with preservation in mind.
Die cast manufacturing companies have changed hands over the years, which means that you will find different names on the older replicas. “Revell” is known for their plastic model kits but they also manufactured a series of NASCAR diecast replicas called “Revell Collection” (Revell-Monogram, Inc.). Their higher end replicas are just as good as the “Action Racing Collectables” replicas but they may not have the same number of moving parts. Hasbro has NASCAR diecast replicas under the “Winner’s Circle” name, RC2 makes the “Racing Champions” brand, Round2 makes dragsters, funny cars and pro stock cars plus Hot Wheels and Mattel are still making different NASCAR diecast models. To name one manufacturer as “the” high end company is misleading so don’t be fooled by the company name.
The best way to be sure of what you are buying is to ask lots of questions. If you go to an online store and they don’t tell all the great things about that NASCAR diecast you are looking at, don’t buy it. Price does not indicate quality but it should make you question the quality.

2) A Goodwrench Super Truck Limited addition Part # 01393088 not sure if this number is for the manufacturer. From the Hamilton Collection by Revell-Monogram.
