star wars episode 3: was darth sidious actually dying when trying to electrocute mace windu?
his face was aging rapidly. why did that happen? why didnt his face age rapidly when using this attack on yoda later in the movie and luke skywalker in episode 6?
I think that in a literal sense, Sidious was in no danger whatsoever in the fight with Mace. The entire fight was being staged for Anikin’s benifit. He kept the fight going until Anikin arrived. Once Anikin was there, he allowed the fight to turn against him. This is not to say that Mace was a willing participant in the sham, he was really trying to take Sidious out, but as cool as Mace was, he was being played and he knew it. Look how quickly Sidious jumps up and starts giving orders once Mace is dead. Sidious didn’t even break a sweat. That being said, I think when Mace reflected the force lightning back at him, it hurt, the scars he gained were real. It was a sacrifice that he was willing to make to gain Anikin’s loyalty.
