LEGO is not just a kids toy even though LEGO has been famous as a popular children’s gift for decades. The blocks can be used in many applications other than play. These uses include everything from a medium for artist’s renderings to rehabilitational tools in helping to restore motor skills in people who have suffered a stroke.
One such application involves artists patching ancient walls with LEGO. The group is called 20 Eventi from Bochhiganano, Italy, and they have used LEGO to tightly block holes in the ancient walls. In four Italian villages they have used LEGO blocks to fill missing sections of the walls, with curious visual results. The eye moves easily over the old stone block and the new, colorful plastic of the LEGO patching, with the interesting byproduct of wedding old with new for a truly artistic statement. No longer riddled with holes, the seamless walls look genuinely complete in spite of the unexpected and colorful blocks tightly repairing the ancient works.
While the addition of LEGO does not provide the walls with basic structural integrity, they certainly help to the solidify the walls and prevent them from further deterioration. Many adults have always realized that LEGO is not just a kids toy, often keeping their childhood collections or advancing to the more intricate sets the LEGO company has introduced in recent years. Thanks to the 20 Eventi group, the world can now see that even patching ancient walls with LEGO is a legitimate use of this wonderful and artistic product.
