What’s the best way to figure out how to set up this part of the equation?
I already had help and got the right answer. I’m suppsed to solve this by substitution method.
2x – y = -11
3x + 2y = 1
Now I know you convert 2x – y = -11 to y = 2x + 11. What I don’t get is how that they came up with that. What’s the best way to figure out how to set up this equation the right way so that the y is on one side?
hi,
2x – y = -11
subtracting 2x from both sides
=> 2x – y – 2x = -11 – 2x
cancelling 2x and -2x on left hand side
=> -y = -11 -2x
taking out -1 as common factor
=> -1(y) = -1(11 + 2x)
cancelling -1 on both sides
=> y = 11 + 2x
rearranging right hand side
=> y = 2x + 11
