The Starwars universe would be introduced to one of the coolest bad guys in Starwars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. Under the Emperor Palpatine’s influence, Darth Maul would look to faithfully serve the interests of his evil Sith Master. Maul is also known for his appearance. His devilish red skin tone and horns protruding from his head are native to the Iridonian Zabrak race.
The sith character who appeared only in Episode 1 in the Starwars movies was played by actor Ray Parks. Ray Parks is also known for his other acting parts including his role in X-Men. His martial arts background made Parks perfect for the role of the fierce and acrobatical Darth Maul. The short dialog heard from his character was voiced by Peter Serafinowicz.
Also appearing for the first time on the big screen in Episode 1 is the double bladed lightsaber that Darth Maul used. This is probably the most intimidating element to the character. Its duel usage included the ability to go into staff mode or single blade mode. This dangerous weapon made the Sith extremely dangerous and versatile to many forms of attacks.
The one big gripe that I have along with many other fans of Starwars is that Darth Maul’s role in the Starwars universe was short lived. I would have rather seen him evolve within the storyline of the films. Darth Maul in my honest opinion was a much better villain than Count Dooku. After episode 1 rumor had it that Darth Maul would end up being cloned. That idea was left in rumor and never materialized in the films.
With that said Darth Maul remains one of the most remembered villains in the Starwars universe. You can add him to the long list of amazing characters to come from the series.

Darth Maul vs AOTC Count Dooku?
Which sith would win in a lightaber duel? I know ROTS Dooku would beat Maul, but I’m talking about Dooku from AOTC. I personally say Maul because Maul destroyed Qui-Gon. Most apprentices eventually become more powerful than their master, so if Maul could beat Qui-Gon than he should be able to defeat Dooku. Also, Yoda could have easily beaten Dooku if he didn’t run off like a coward.
Hmm. Have to go with Darth Maul on that one. I tell you one duel I’d love to see: Maul versus Darth Zannah from the Darth Bane trilogy of novels. She also wielded a double-bladed lightsaber. Zannah had an epic duel with her Master Darth Bane ( not saying who won that, by the way; read Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil ). I really think she would defeat Maul.
